It is our goal to keep adding value to the dance community. Therefore, we keep applying new modes of learning as well as engaging in new organisation models to see what is the best way to operate within an ever-changing reality.
With the new addition of seminars to our classes, we are also introducing a new financial model. As we all know, it takes a certain amount of money to run a workshop. There is the teacher’s salary, the salary of the support staff of TWV, our subscription to Zoom, etc. At the end of the day, though each of these expenses are extremely important, as long as they are covered, there is nothing more that we need. As Jorge wrote in his open letter for the international dance day, independent artists are creative beings by nature, not greedy ones.
The established financial model of running seminars like this usually involves a blanket registration fee. What happens if the number of participants, paying that same fee exceeds the expenses to run the seminar? What happens if the number isn’t enough? What happens if someone can’t pay the full fee and they miss out on something valuable to them? We have realised that instead of asking for a blanket fee from all our participants, we can do things in another way. We want our fees to reflect the full story of these seminars. We want to acknowledge the value of the session, the expertise of the teachers, and to acknowledge those who ultimately make these sessions happen beyond the finances (aka - you, the dancers).
Therefore, the registration fee for this seminar will be entirely dependent on how many people take part. The more people in each session, the less each person will have to individually pay. This way, expenses will be covered, the teachers’ work will be completed and totally valued through their pay, and there will be no overhead or debt.
This is how it costs to run this particular seminar:
Teacher’s fee: 50€/hour x 6hours: 300€
Tax on teacher’s fee (16%): 8€/hour x 6hours: 48€
Digital Infrastructure (zoom, mailchimp, website, etc): 60€month divided by 4 weeks: 15€/week
Image and flyer design: 30€
Organisation time: 25€/hour x 8h: 200€
Total: 593€
Here is what it might cost depending the number of participants:
50 participants = 12€/participant
30 participants = 20€ /participant
20 participants = 30€/participant
10 participants = 59€/participant
These numbers are the bare minimum that is needed. So how will this work?
On the registration form below, you see different options regarding how much you can commit towards this class. So all we need from you is to know how much you are able to contribute to run this seminar. As always, we do not ask you to go above your means. We simply need to know what you can afford and that you are committed to this amount so that we are able to confirm the final price and if the seminar can go ahead.
One of the great things about this model is that you, the participants, can actually help each other out. If you are able to contribute a little more than the suggested price, your contributions will go towards someone else’s fee who is unable to pay the suggested price.
We'll let you know the final price per participant on Thursday noon for you to complete your registration and be ready to start the workshop on Friday at 3pm (CEST) or 2pm (UK time), with Olga Lopez Torres, PhD in Sport Sciences, Professor at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Contemporary professional dancer.
