Following off from our previous intensive “The Brain and the Dancer”, we look at how to nurture another crucial relationship within ourselves as performers.
For those not in the know, there has always been a long standing, somewhat narrow minded debate about dancers… Are they athletes? Are they artists? What is their most defining characteristic?
Without a doubt, we are definitely both. Our physicality and sensitivity both need to be at peak condition in order to do what we do. To communicate stories, perspectives, and experiences through the body and movement, we need incredible strength and stamina across the spectrum of emotions and the somatic.
How do we train all these facets? We turn to the organ that holds them all with grace and power. The heart.
In “The Heart and The Dancer”, we have collected experts in the duality of this incredible relationship. Over the course of 3 days, we will:
It was Shakespeare who wrote “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players”.
We are all in the midst of a massive global shift across so many spectrums. On one end, environmental disasters, pandemic, human rights violations and violence. On the other, unparalleled scientific discovery, shifts in language and space to welcome all identities and expressions, and instant global communication.
As always, we, in the arts, sit in a very unique position. We have the tools to witness these events and developments with nuanced understanding and perspective. We have the ability to translate what we witness into powerful stories, statements, and commentaries. And we have the courage and fortitude to share these with others, creating impact and pushing the world forward into its evolution.
It’s hard to say where we are all heading. But one thing is for sure… artists will be right there, on the pulse as we always have been. So it’s important to sharpen our tools to make the most of our role in this global stage.
In this intensive, we offer new perspectives and insights into the evolving nature of performance and the roles of performers within this evolution. These courses are designed for performers and performance makers alike, covering:
